I'm thinking keep it simple - just cheese, all veggie, and a meaty choice.... what are your thoughts?

Re: Pizza for a crowd...
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 8:47 AMBeen spoiled by the awesome pizza here in Napoli. What makes the pizza here great, besides being hand-made and cooked in a wood fired oven, is the simplicity and quality of the ingredients. I really like simple: a little bit of tomato sauce, a few slices of mozzarella (when fresh, it comes in a ball the size of tennis or baseball), some fresh basil... Bellissimo!
I guess it depends on your crowd, though. Food connoiseur types, hearty American meal types, teenagers (who will eat anything that can't outrun them! ;), carnivores, vegetarians, Hawaiians (Spam and pineapple!), etc. etc.
Depending on the size of the crowd and the venue, maybe folks'll want to make or order their own...?
Cheers,
SW :) -

Re: Pizza for a crowd...
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 12:32 PMReally Sista? Isn't pizza our national dish? No fair comparing Pizza the Hut to real pizza. How's the BBQ chicken pizza over there? Enough cilantro? Lots of places skimp with the Canadian bacon on a Hawaiian pizza or don't use fresh pineapple, how is it there? :) Actually, I imagine it tastes like a completely different dish over there. Love to try it. I imagine the crust is completely different from the countless varieties available here. Kinda like San Francisco sourdough different from each bakery and way different from anywhere else in the world.
What was the question? Oh yeah. I find that usually the plain cheese gets left for last and only eaten when all the others are gone. I also find people are pickier about veggie pizza, some are afraid of bad breath from onions or bell pepper disagrees with them, yadda yadda. You should know the place you're ordering from since they will make some better than others. And also have some idea of your guests tastes and preferences, like some will eat meat but not red meat, etc.

Re: Pizza for a crowd...
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 8:20 PMI'm mostly with you. Have cheese pizzas. With veggies if you want it to have extra interest. And a side pizza with pepporoni for the die hard meat eaters. But keep in mind this still won't cover everyone. There are many lactose intolerant people, as well as vegans.
So you might also include a pizza without cheese. Many pizza places will make it this way, if asked. Pizza with tomato sauce and veggies. The cheese is not really needed and it tastes fine. -

Re: Pizza for a crowd...
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 2:48 PMAww, that's too bad. My bf is from Naples and is extremely interested in the raw food movement. We have found that most raw (un)cookbooks are American-based, not Mediterranean. Indeed, we've only been able to find ONE raw food book in Italian, and it doesn't cover much. He is hoping to change that, so maybe there will be a good recipe for raw pizza some day. ;)
Cheers,
SW
