You've done well for me on a couple other questions so I feel comfortable asking this: What's the proper nutrition for a woman in early 50's?
I know it's harder to lose weight so I'm assuming that caloric intake is supposed to be lower. I need to lose some weight (I won't say how much) and I'm not sure about calorie intake for my age range.

Re: Nutrition and Calories
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 4:29 PMUnless you're a bad eater just trim out the empty calories, sugars, starches and deep fried foods.
Nothing will take off the excess faster than adding regular exercise. You should consider weight training, free weight or machine. Not only for the fitness value but because weight training will help keep your bone mass and your bones strong. No falling down and breaking a hip when you're older. You're body naturally loses muscle and gains fat when you get older. Weight training will keep your body young. Many women are afraid of weight training because they believe it will make them bulky. Not the case. Less than 2% of women have the physical makeup to get muscular and then they really have to try to add bulk.. -

Re: Nutrition and Calories
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 7:14 PMyeah not so much afraid of how I'll look. I have severe carpal tunnel and my ulna and radius aren't the same length (congenital). I used to weight train. Where I worked had a ton of exercise equipment. It was great. I try to walk at least a few blocks daily to rebuild my stamina./strength. Can't run. Bad knee.
So I thought I'd focus on keeping the junk out of my diet. I know less calories have to be consumed though I'm not a calorie counter. I did well on South Beach 3 years ago. The last time I tried it I actually gained weight.
If I can get an idea of how many calories is healthy for my age I'm pretty good at eyeballing. It just seems lately that eating 2 squares a day plus dessert is packing it on. I know how to take it off if I know what target I'm going for.

Re: Nutrition and Calories
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 6:39 PMSome people don't need to count calories. It is possible to loose weight simply by watching what type of food you eat. If you cut out the sugar, white flour and empty carbs, your bound to feel better be healthier and loose weight.
